Message from the Hon’ble Minister Textiles, Maharashtra

    Textile Minister

    Shri Chandrakant Patil,
    Hon’ble Minister Textile

I am proud to say that our state is home to one of the most vibrant and dynamic textile industries in India that plays a crucial role in our state’s economy. With a long and rich history dating back to the 17th century, the textile sector in Maharashtra has grown with strong presence of both traditional and modern sectors. Maharashtra accounts for 10.4% of the country’s total textile and apparel production and 10.2% of the total employment.

The State has previously released two textile policies which aimed to make the textile industry in Maharashtra more competitive, leading to increased employment and economic growth. Further, the State has recently released the Integrated and Sustainable Textile Policy 2023-2028.

One of the key priorities of the Textiles Department is to promote sustainability in the textile industry. We are actively encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly practices, through 3-R model viz Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, and implementation of water and energy conservation measures in textile manufacturing processes. Additionally, the State will be introducing dedicated technical textile parks with common facility centres, infrastructure support and a conducive environment for growth of the sector.

Furthermore, we are committed to promoting Maharashtra’s textile products both domestically and internationally. The Department will be organizing trade fairs, exhibitions, and buyer-seller meets to showcase the finest textiles produced in our state. Through collaborations with various industry associations and government agencies, we aim to increase market access and boost exports, thereby contributing to the state’s overall economic development.

The Department will make earnest efforts to foster growth, sustainability, and global competitiveness of our textile sector. By focusing on research and innovation, sustainability, skill development and empowering our textile industry stakeholders, we aim to position Maharashtra as a leading textile hub, generating investment and employment opportunities and driving economic growth of the state.
